A ready-made 30-minute countdown
30 Minute Timer
This page opens with the timer already set to 30 minutes, press Start and the countdown begins right away. You'll get an audible alarm and a large "time's up" message when it reaches zero. Need a different length instead? Change the hours/minutes/seconds fields or tap another quick-duration chip before you start, or visit the full online timer page for every option.
00:00
Set a duration and press Start.
What a 30-minute timer is good for
Half an hour is long enough for a genuine, focused block of activity, while still being short enough to fit between other commitments without much planning.
- A full workout session, from warm-up to cool-down
- A standard meeting slot, kept honest with a visible countdown everyone can see
- A study block, ideal for reviewing a full topic or working through a problem set
- A cooking or baking step that needs a longer, unattended cook or rest time
- A lunch break, timed so it's easy to notice when it's time to head back
- A single episode's worth of screen-time limit for a break or for kids
- A cleaning or decluttering session covering a full room rather than a single surface
- A focused writing or coding sprint before a scheduled check-in
How to start it
The timer above already shows 30:00. Press Start and it counts straight down. Pause and Resume work at any point if you're interrupted, and Reset clears it if you'd rather set a different length. The fullscreen icon expands the countdown to fill your entire screen, useful for a shared meeting screen, a classroom projector, or a second monitor you can glance at while working.
30 minutes compared to other common durations
If half an hour isn't quite the length you need, here's how it compares to the other ready-made countdowns on this site, and how to set anything else:
| Duration | Typical use | Where to find it |
|---|---|---|
| 5 minutes | A short break, a warm-up, a quick tidy-up | 5 minute timer |
| 10 minutes | A break, a discussion slot, a warm-up routine | 10 minute timer |
| 30 minutes | A full workout, a study block, a meeting | This page (already set) |
| Anything else (e.g. 45 minutes, 2 hours, 20 seconds) | Any custom length | Online timer, type it into the hours/minutes/seconds fields |
The alarm, muting it, and fullscreen mode
When the 30 minutes run out, a short two-tone alarm plays (generated directly in your browser, no audio file to load) along with a clear "Time's up!" message on screen. Tap the speaker icon before starting if you'd rather it stay silent; the visual message still appears when time's up either way. Fullscreen mode is especially useful for a longer countdown like this one, leave it running on a second screen or a tablet propped up nearby, and check on it with a glance rather than needing to keep a browser tab focused.
Accurate over a longer countdown
The longer a countdown runs, the more a naive one-second-at-a-time counter can drift if the browser tab is backgrounded and its timers get throttled to save battery, over 30 minutes, that drift can add up to several seconds or more. This timer avoids the problem structurally: pressing Start records the exact clock time the countdown will end, and every update simply compares the current time against that fixed target rather than accumulating small ticks. Leave the tab in the background for the entire 30 minutes doing something else, and the countdown will still be accurate to the second when you check back.
Splitting 30 minutes into shorter stages
Some routines work better as several shorter stages rather than one continuous 30-minute block, for example a workout with a warm-up, a main set, and a cool-down, or a study session split into a focus block and a review block. There's no built-in multi-stage mode here, by design (see the main timer page's troubleshooting section for the reasoning): run each stage as its own countdown, pressing Reset and setting a fresh duration between stages. For a 25-minutes-then-5-minutes split specifically, the 5 minute timer page is a ready-made second stage.
